What is a rate confirmation?
A rate confirmation (rate con) is the document a broker sends a carrier for one load. It confirms the pickup and delivery, the equipment, the agreed rate and the terms. Once both sign it, it is the agreement for that load under the broker-carrier agreement between them.
Who sends the rate confirmation?
The broker sends it to the carrier after they agree on the rate, and the carrier signs and returns it before the load is picked up.
What should a carrier check before signing?
That the rate and every accessorial match what was agreed, the stops and appointment times are right, and the detention, layover and payment terms are acceptable. Anything not on the rate confirmation is hard to bill later.
Why does the load number matter?
The broker matches the carrier's invoice to the load by its number. Put the same number on the invoice, and send the signed rate confirmation with the BOL or proof of delivery to get paid.
Can software read a rate confirmation for me?
